Clubfinder Reaches 800

800!

No, sadly not my score on a recent Double Dewar set of cards! But I am delighted to announce that Clubfinder now contains 801 clubs.

More or less every smallbore club in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are listed - as well as the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.

Clubfinder also has NRA Clubs for all the Home Nations apart from England, where clubs for the North-East, North-West, the East- and West- Midlands and the East-of-England have been entered, leaving just three regions - London and the South-East/-West still to do. That being said, many clubs in those regions will already have been entered during the initial pass of NSRA clubs. Its nearing what could be called “Release 1.0”.

The project can be found on Github and if you don’t fancy digging into the SQLite database, there is a complete, human-readable list now available as well.

Websites

Unfortunately, this exercise has confirmed my suspicions. Of the 801 clubs added so far, 231 do not have websites, Facebook pages, or any other sort of web presence. Quite how they expect to recruit is a mystery. It gets worse however as that number is derived simply from counting the number of clubs with a NULL entry in the “cluburl” column. However, plenty of clubs have a web presence that only extends to a page on their County Association’s site. Better than nothing, but not really a website to call their own. The true number is probably higher than 250, which is knocking on for a clear third of clubs. Not a great look if people are trying to get into the sport.

If you’re on the list of shame (which I may well publish), I implore you to sort it out.
